Richard C. Taft, MD, FACOG Diplomate, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Dr. Taft received his undergraduate B.A. degree from Duke University and graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine where he completed his residency in OB/GYN at North Carolina Memorial Hospital. He joined this practice in 1976 with Doctors Clement, Deyton, and Douglas. He is a member of the American College of OB/GYN, American Urogynecologic Society which specializes in treating female urinary incontinence, and also the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy. In 2002, Dr. Taft served as Chief of the Medical Staff at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. In his spare time, he volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and is currently on the vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He enjoys fly fishing and spending time with his four grandchildren.
Hale H. Stephenson, MD, FACOG Diplomate, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Dr. Stephenson was a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also attended the East Carolina University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of North Carolina Hospital. In addition, he earned his Master of Arts in Science Education at UNC in Chapel Hill. He has been in practice since 1992. A published author, he has given various lectures on Women’s Health, Adolescent Health and Abstinence. He is a member of the American College of OB/GYN, the Coastal Plains OB/GYN Society and the Robert A. Ross Society. In addition, he volunteers with several organizations, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and he is a member of arvis Memorial Church. He is married with three beautiful daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys photography and the great outdoors.
Frank L. Gay, MD, FACOG Diplomate, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Dr. Gay received his BA from Duke University, then graduated Magna Cum Laude from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and completed his residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He has been in practice since 1990, and is a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He volunteers with numerous organizations, including the Christian Medical Association and the Carolina Pregnancy Center where he is the Medical Director. He obtained the Accreditation Council for Gynecologic Endoscopy, in addition to others. Married with four children, Dr. Gay travels on medical missions to developing countries in his free time.
Scott R. Avery, MD, FACOG Diplomate, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Avery completed his residency at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, and he has been a practicing physician since 1997. In addition to giving lectures on his field of study, he has also done missionary work in Haiti and is Board Certified. He and his wife, Kim, have four children: Blake, Ben, Hannah and Allie.
Susan M. Bane, PhD, MD
Dr. Susan Bane completed her residency at the East Carolina University School of Medicine after graduating from the University of Illinois. A practicing physician since 2001, she has also served as a lecturer for her field of study. She is Board Certified and is a published author. She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American College of OB/GYNs and the Society of Behavioral Medicine. A mother of three, she enjoys playing tennis and coaching softball in her free time. She has been married for 18 years.
William H. Taft, III, MD
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the East Carolina University School of Medicine, Dr. Taft completed his residency at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He has been in practice since 2004 and has presented various lectures detailing his studies.
He is a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. A native of Greenville, Dr. Taft is married and has two daughters. He enjoys the beach and outdoor activities and is a member of Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church.
Deborah G. Ward, PA-C Physicians Assistant – Certified
A practicing Physician’s Assistant since 1986, Deborah G. Ward earned her degree from Duke University. She is a member of the NCAPA and the AAPA and has been certified by the North Carolina Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She calls herself a “soccer mom” who loves the beach and acts as team manager for the Pitt County Girls Soccer Association.
Tracy Atilla,RN, CNM, MSN Certified Nurse Midwife
She attained her BSN at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her MSN at the East Carolina University School of Medicine.
She has been practicing midwifery since 2004 and has provided lectures for her field of study. She is a member of the Association of Certified Nurse Midwives and the North Carolina Nurses Association. Tracy and her husband have one child.
Frieda B. Tucker, RN, CNM, MSN Certified Nurse Midwife
Frieda B. Tucker attended the East Carolina University School of Medicine and has been practicing in the capacity of Midwife for seven years. She is Board Certified and holds membership in several organizations, including the American College of Nurse Midwives and the North Carolina Chapter of the American College of Nurse Midwives. She is married and says that her family, which includes three young-adult children, four dogs and two cats, love to spend time together. In addition, she likes reading, knitting and jogging.
Jaena L. Newman, RN, CNM, MSN Certified Nurse Midwife
Jaena L. Newman earned her BA from Taylor University in Upland, IN and her MSN from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She has been in practice for four and a half years and has presented lectures on Breastfeeding and Infant Care. She is a member of both the American College of Nurse Midwives and the North Carolina Chapter of the American College of Nurse Midwives. Her husband, Tony, and her children, Olivia and Carter, occupy much of her spare time, but she still manages to volunteer at her church, working in the children’s ministry.
Carolyn M. Green, RN, CNM, MSN Certified Nurse Midwife
Carolyn M. Green attended East Carolina University and the Brody School of Nursing. She has performed for over 24 years as a Registered Nurse, for 18 years in Labor and Delivery and for one and a half years as a Nurse Midwife. She is certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International. Among other activities, she served as the PCMH Steering Committee for Breastfeeding /Baby Friendly Initiative. When free, she enjoys playing the piano and cooking. She and her husband Bob have one daughter.
Allison A. Brodeur, MS, MFT
She graduated from East Carolina University’s AAMFT accredited Marriage and Family Therapy Program with a Master of Science and is a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy as well as the North Carolina Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Carolina Pregnancy Center.
